Helen Elizabeth Bunnell Butler's Obituary
Helen Elizabeth Bunnell Butler, 89, died at Ave Maria Nursing Home and went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, February 1, 2010. She was born in Memphis on July 26, 1920, and she was a lifelong resident of Memphis. Helen was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil C. Bunnell of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her half-sister, Dorothy Garrett; her brother, Cecil C. Bunnell, Jr.; and her sister, Louise Shipp. Helen’s love of music and dancing was a gift passed on from her father and mother. Helen and Ed met at Humes High School. When Ed enlisted in the army during World War II, he came back home on furlough to marry his high school sweet heart on August 30, 1942. They were truly part of the greatest generation. Helen was proud of her hometown of Memphis. She loved her work at Clark & Clark Real Estate Development. She never met a stranger and was friendly t anyon she met, even in her last years under the cloud of Alzheimer’s disease. Most of al Helen loved her family. She unashamedly doted on each of her three children, her four grandchildren and her four great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Macon Christian Church for most of herlife and later became a member of Independant Presbyterian Church. Helen is survived by her husband, Silas Edward Butler, Jr.,of Memphis; three children; Michael Edward Butler and his wife Liz of Greensboro, GA, Mark Cecil Butler of Austin, TX, Kathy Jeanne Butler of Memphis; four grandchildren, Teri Joyce Gibson and her husband Alan of Marietta, GA, Melissa Lynne Nordan and husband Cary of Raleigh, NC, Kelly Diane Butler and Katharine Leigh Butler of Austin, TX; as well as four great-grandchildren, Ellie Ruth Gibson, Braden James Gibson, Tatum Anne Gibson, and Henley Alexander Benton Nordan.
