Helen J. Anderson's Obituary
Mary Helen Jobe Anderson, 92, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away on July 16, 2013. She was born on September 29, 1920, in Covington, TN, to John Samuel and Lucille Campbell Jobe, the third of six children. Mrs. Anderson was known to her family and friends as “Peep” or “Peepsie”. Mrs. Anderson grew up in the Memphis area where she attended Humes High School. She worked several jobs in the following years, during the WWII era. She married John Franklin Anderson of Chicago, IL on March 8, 1944, in Fresno, CA. After marriage to LT Anderson, their homes were several Army Air Force bases throughout the United States and Panama. LT Anderson died while on active duty in the Panama Canal Zone in 1947. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Anderson began a new career in Memphis with the fledgling airline Chicago & Southern. C&S Airline later became the beginning of Delta Airlines. She worked for C&S and Delta in Memphis, Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA, until retirement in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, three brothers, two sisters, a niece and three nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Teri Anderson Pickle of Poteau, OK, granddaughter, Susanna Lynn Pickle of San Antonio, TX, grandson William C Pickle III of Oklahoma City, OK, great-granddaughter Dakota Rose Pickle of Oklahoma City, OK, nieces Linda Herz and Cara Parker of Manteno, IL and several other nieces and nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. The visitation will be Friday, July 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Ave. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society or ASPCA.
