Helen Armitage Allen's Obituary
Helen Armitage Allen, 90, died peacefully on May 12, 2015, at Lakewood Manor in Richmond, VA. She was first and foremost, a teacher, who loved all her students at St. Mary’s, Hutchison, Lausanne, and Grace-St. Luke’s. One student said: “Mrs. Allen has definitely been a powerful influence on my life. Because she has striven to bring out the finest human qualities in all her girls, I feel confident that we can meet the world and its challenges with the assurance that someone cared enough to prepare us for leading meaningful, purposeful lives.” After teaching, she worked in Nashville for the Departments of Employment Security and Finance and Administration. She also volunteered at the Church Health Center after retirement. She was predeceased by her husband, Dan W. Allen and is survived by her daughters Noel Schwartz (Herschel) and Patricia Jacob (John) and her grandsons Dan Schwartz, Scott Jacob (Prachi,) and Allen Jacob (Jennifer) and their daughter Katherine. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 18 at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
