Hazel Oswalt's Obituary
Hazel Anderson Oswalt, born June 30, 1924, passed away February 1, 2015, joining her husband, J.W., in heaven, who passed away November, 2013. Hazel, a native Mississippian, grew up and lived in Water Valley, Mississippi most of her life, moving to Memphis during the depression with her family. She was the daughter of John and Polly Anderson, one of 8 children. Hazel departed this life February 1, 2015 in Memphis from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Oswalt, and siblings, Mildred Greer, Opal Anderson, Kate Greer, Aletha Franklin, Virginia Swanger, Ruth Moore and John Anderson, Jr. Surviving Hazel are her children: Chuck (Kay) Oswalt of Hernando, MS, and Deri (Randall) Whittaker of Bartlett, TN. She leaves four abundantly loved grandchildren: Rebecca (Steven) Stewart of Southaven, MS; Adam (Nicole) Whittaker of Lancaster, PA; Chris (Jennifer) Oswalt of Memphis, TN; and Aaron (Tara) Whittaker of Arlington, TN, and her six dearly oved great-grandchildren: Jackson Oswalt, Weston and Allie Stewart, Jake, Shelby and Aubrey Whittaker. Hazel, Nanny, was our inspiration, our role model a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was all this and so much more to so many others who were bless to know her. The family would like to thank the staff at The Kings Daughters & Sons Home in Bartlett, TN and the Crossroads Hospice Staff for the love care and attention given to Hazel in her last days J. W. and Hazel enjoyed traveling, golf, friends and family. She was working mother who knew how to balance family and career with meaningful friendships and an everlasting love for family that can’t be replicated. Family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Memorial Park Fireside Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Flowers are welcome; or memorials sent to your charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
