Harry Sharp's Obituary
Harry B. “Skip” Sharp, age 73, passed away Saturday night, December 22, 2012. He leaves his wife, Glenda, mother-in-law, Dorothy Davis, and brother – and sister-in-law, Eddy and Deorenda Davis. Skip and Glenda were happily married for 31 years. He was preceded in death, at a young age of 34, by his first wife Evelyn Lewis.Skip was a lifelong Memphian but for six years spent in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee (UT) earning a BS in Accounting and a MBA in Industrial Management. A career with the Internal Revenue Service provided variety in his professional life as he held numerous staff and managerial positions, retiring after 32 satisfying years.Sports were woven throughout Skip’s life as he was accomplished in both basketball and golf, and enjoyed officiating many other sports. Although a UT graduate, he became an active fan and supporter of the University of Memphis, receiving the Golden Tiger Award in recognition of his many efforts.A member of Highland Heights Baptist Church, he supported the Lord’s work through his wife’s membership at Second Presbyterian and his generosity to numerous local charitable organizations. A devoted husband and a loyal friend, Skip will be missed by those whose lives he touched. Skip passed away peacefully at Baptist Memorial Hospital in the excellent and compassionate care of the staff of the Myelosuppression Unit and Integrity Oncology. Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 26. Funeral Service will be at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, December 27. Memorials may be sent to the Caring Ministry at Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Ave., Memphis 38111; Neighborhood Christian Centers, 785 N. Jackson Ave., Memphis 38112; or Calvary Rescue Mission, 960 S. Third St., Memphis 38106. “God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be. He wrapped him in His loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’ He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend. He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
