Harold DeFord Walker, Jr.'s Obituary
Harold DeFord Walker, Jr. Born May 21, 1947 died July 31, 2011. He was the son of the late Harold D. Walker, Sr. and Tempe Maclin Walker of Germantown, TN. Harold was a renaissance man who was an accomplished equestrian and competitor, sailor, fisherman, runner, triathlete, marathoner, polo player, farmer, camper, marksman, scuba diver, duck and dove hunter, world traveler and Parrothead. He turned his talents and love for carpentry and volunteerism into his ministry and second career when he went to work for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis. Harold was a past volunteer police officer for the City of Germantown, graduate of The Memphis University School, Veteran of the U.S. Navy, past president of Walker Machine Products, Inc., past president of Precision Machine Products Association, past Commodore of The River City Sailing Association, past president of the Germantown Charity Horse Show Association, a charter member of the Germantown Lions Club Lions Club International, and a 51 year member of the Oak Grove Hunt Club and a past appointee by the Mayor of Germantown to the BZA and DRC. Through his work with the Shelby Farms Equestrian Alliance, Harold was instrumental in creating the equestrian trails and obstacles at Shelby Farms. While growing up in Germantown he was a member of the Germantown Methodist Church and studied passionately the teachings of our Lord under the Reverend Dub Nance. After marrying and starting his own family in Germantown, he joined and raised his family at Saint Georges Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife whom he infinitely adored, Eugenia “Foxy” vonLackum Walker, daughters Virginia of Germantown; Hannah of Washington, DC; Snow of Memphis; son, Harold DeFord III (Amy) and granddaughters Marion Lampton and Ann Elisabeth of Flowood, MS. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Watson (Richard) of Cleveland, TN and Tempe Chancellor (Jimmy) of Germantown, and brother, Richard Walker (Carolyn) of Jacksonsville, FL; and 11 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews. A service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Saint George’s Episcopal Church, 2425 S. Germantown Road, Germantown, TN 38138.
