Harold W. "Hal" Crook Sr.'s Obituary
Harold W. (“Hal”) Crook, Sr, 93, passed away in Collierville, TN, on September 18, 2023.
Born on November 1, 1929, in New Orleans, LA, he was the only child of Herbert N. Crook and Merle D. Crook. He moved to Memphis when he was a child and lived in the Memphis area for much of his life. He graduated from Central High School in Memphis, and from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
He married Martha Williams in 1961, and was married to her for 62 years, until his death.
He is survived by his two children: Harold W. Crook Jr (Jennifer) of Gallaway, TN, and Linda Crook Morgan (Kevin Dougher) of Memphis, TN, as well as his two grandsons: Kyle W. Crook, of Bartlett, TN, and Bret B. Morgan Jr, of Memphis, TN.
Hal was in the Navy Reserves after graduating from college, as well as on active duty, and he also worked for a number of years at Delta Airlines. He later worked for First National Bank of Memphis (later First Tennessee), then for Business Equipment Center. He retired in 1989.
Hal, his wife, and his children were all actively involved in showing horses for many years, and he volunteered as Treasurer (and other board positions) for several horse show organizations during those years, as well. He was devoted to his family, and loved driving them to horse shows, and helping with the horses and farm upkeep. He also loved traveling with Martha in their RV, reading, and walking their dogs.
Harold was a diehard fan of University of Tennessee Football, and of University of Memphis Basketball. In his later years, he was known to say, “I’m not afraid of dying, but I hate like heck to miss football season!”.
A lifelong Episcopalian, he was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Germantown, at the time of his death.
Harold’s frequent smile, integrity, and sense of humor will be missed by family and friends, alike.
Visitation for Harold will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home (5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN) on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery to follow at 1:00 p.m.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meadow Wood Rescue, 10453 Raleigh LaGrange Rd, Eads, TN, 38028
