Harold Crawford's Obituary
Harold Edward Crawford (1924-2018) passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 after 94 wonderful years of life. Harold was born April 25, 1924 in Horn Lake, Mississippi to the late Willoughby Dorn and Ella (Holyfield) Crawford. He was preceded in death by his 5 siblings, Willoughby Dorn “W.D.”, Cecil, Lecil, Virginia, and Hazel C. Thrasher. In 1940, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp and proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning from the war, he attended the University of Tennessee and later graduated from Memphis State University (University of Memphis). Harold began his career with Colonial Finance before joining Memphis Consumer Credit Association, Inc. He served as President & CEO of Memphis Consumer Credit Association, Inc. and retired after 35 years of service. In the early 1970’s, he was one of the pioneers of computer automation of the credit reporting industry. He served as Chairman of the Credit Reporting division of the Associated Credit Bureaus of America (ACB), led numerous state & national committees for ACB and served as Executive Vice President of the Memphis Retail Furniture Dealers Association. Harold was a member of the Early Settlers of Tennessee which fostered his enthusiasm for ancestral research. One of his fondest works was the research and publishing of his Crawford ancestry dating back to 1745. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Jeanne (Cloyes) Crawford; two sons, Meredith Alan (Eileen) and Bruce Kendall Crawford (Cindy); and four grandchildren, Amy Claire, Triece, Elizabeth and Barrett. Harold was a member of the Church of the Holy Communion. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., at The Church of the Holy Communion, 4645 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38117. Reception & Visitation will immediately follow in the Cheney Parrish Hall. A private interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Church of the Holy Communion or favorite charity. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, December 13th at 11:30am at Church of the Holy Communion, 4645 Walnut Grove Road in Memphis. Immediately following there will be a visitation and reception in the Parish Hall.
