Harley Hathaway's Obituary
Harley Dwire Hathaway, age 88, passed away July 6, 2016 at his home in Memphis, TN. Mr. Hathaway was born May 28, 1928 to parents Arthur and Marie Hathaway. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Cora Etta Hathaway; siblings George Hathaway, Anne King (Rollie), and David Hathaway (Helen); sons Russell Hathaway and Arthur Hathaway (Penny); daughters Peggy Simendinger (Mark), Kathy Lawler (Frank), and Rebecca Lamar (John). He also leaves grandchildren Travis (Amanda), Tyler, and Frank Lawler; Chance and Cassia Hathaway; Matthew and Brandi Sipe; and Jenica Lamar; and great-grandchildren Kirk and Jennings Lawler. Mr. Hathaway graduated from Lyons High School in Lyons, Ohio in 1946. He served honorably in the U. S. Army’s 5th RCT during the Korean War where he earned four bronze service stars, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Korean Service Medal. After the war, he married and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science (1956) and Masters of Science (1957) degrees. He started work with Proctor and Gamble in 1957 and moved to Memphis in 1976. In 1986, Mr. Hathaway retired from Proctor and Gamble and became part-owner and Vice President of Manufacturing and Research for the Cochran Corporation and permanently retired in 2001. Mr. Hathaway had varied interests that he pursued with vigor throughout his life. He trained and showed champion beagles, he hunted and fished, he followed his favorite team – the Memphis Tigers, was active in Sunday School, and participated in many activities with his family. He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. Visitation will occur on July 10th at 2pm with funeral following at 3pm both at Germantown United Methodist Church. Interment immediately follows at Memorial Park Cemetery – 5668 Popular Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 901-767-8930 “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
