Halcyon R. Lynn's Obituary
Halcyon Roach Lynn, 92, passed away September 13, 2017. She was born October 3, 1924 and was the wife of the late Col. Ross M. Lynn, the first Headmaster of Memphis University School. Mrs. Lynn attended The Hutchison School, Stephens College, and Southwestern (now Rhodes College). A former teacher at Presbyterian Day School, she was active in the community and an avid gardener. Her special interest was daylilies, and she often spoke on the subject at area garden clubs. For a number of years, her garden on the MUS Campus was open to the public during June.Mrs. Lynn was a past Chairman of the Women’s Division of Shelby United Neighbors (the forerunner of the United Way). She was also a past president of the Crippled Children’s Foundation; a member of the Memphis Garden Club, Junior League of Memphis, and Tuesday Study Club; and a former member of the Les Passees, the Symphony League, Noel Club, and the Little Club. She was a life member of Dixon Gallery and Gardens and a member of Memphis Country Club. She leaves 2 sons, Richard C. Moore, Jr. of Memphis and Thurston R. Moore of Richmond, VA; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.Following a private burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, the family will receive friends at Second Presbyterian Church from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Monday, September 18 with the memorial service to follow immediately at 1:00 p.m.The family request that any memorials be sent to the Ross M. Lynn Society of Memphis University School or a charge of the donor’s choice.
