H. Wayne Vaiden, Jr.'s Obituary
Herbert Wayne Vaiden, Jr, of Memphis, TN, died Monday, November 12, 2012, at Methodist Hospice Residence Center after a half-year long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Wayne was born March 16, 1936, to Herbert and Celeste Vaiden, their second son. He graduated from Central High School in 1954, spent two years at the University of Arizona, and graduated from Vanderbilt in 1958 with a degree in English Literature. After ROTC at Vanderbilt he served two years of active duty at the Army Air Defense Missile School at Fort Bliss, TX. He then earned his J.D. and was on the Law Review at Memphis State University. He practiced law until he died. After many years in the service of his country, Wayne attained the rank of Colonel as a reservist in the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. His personal interests included physical fitness, travel, opera and symphony, auto and gun collecting, and military history. For many years he was a member of a krewe in Carnival Memphis. Wayne is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his beloved companion and confidante, Jere Gerard, brother Philip Vaiden, daughters Marilee Varner of Lexington, KY, and Farrow Carson of Springfield, MO, and six grandchildren. Visitation will be held at noon Friday, November 16, 2012, at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Salvation Army or to Methodist Hospice Residence Center in honor of the kind and compassionate care given to Wayne by their staff.
