H. Gene Ray's Obituary
Dr. H. Gene Ray, 68, passed away on January 3, 2016. He graduated from Overton High School in 1966 and continued his education at Memphis State University, where he graduated with a BA in History. He was ordained as a minister at East Park Baptist Church and served as Youth Minister. Dr. Ray was a graduate of Southwestern Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX, where he was awarded both a MA and Doctorate of Ministry and served as an intern pastor at First Baptist Dallas under W. A. Criswell. During his time at Southwestern he also received the Fred W. Swank Award for Evangelism. Dr. Ray served as head pastor at churches in Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, and Florida. Dr. Ray was the President and owner of Southern Diabetic Supply and he was certified as a Pedorithist so he could render better service to the company’s clients. He had a zest for life and people and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed golf, and personal fitness.Dr. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Morris Ray and his father Nathaniel Ray. He is survived by his daughter, Rebekah Brock (Adam), his son, Dr. Tim Ray (Jennifer), his mother, Maxie Lee Ray, two brothers, Clifton Ray (Laura Lynn), David Ray (Heidi), and one granddaughter Carole Anne Brock.The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at Memorial Park Funeral Home until the service time at 11:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Love Worth Finding Ministries, P.O.
