Gumersindo R. Leal, M.D.'s Obituary
Gumersindo R. Leal, M.D. passed away March 11, 2017. He was born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba and graduated from the University of Havana Medical School in 1954. He left communist Cuba with his family in 1971 and worked for 62 years as a physician. The last 22 years of his practice he worked serving the people of Memphis. He has a passion for helping people and loved his profession. However, ill health forced his retirement in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Marianne; children, Rolando Leal (Cecilia), Jorge Leal (Diane Donohue) and Joanne Wehr (Douglas); grandchildren, Erin, Nicolas and Allegra Leal and Jared Wehr and nephews, Omar Solloa and Juan Leal. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18 at Colonial Park United Methodist Church.
