Grover Lee Walker's Obituary
Grover Lee Walker Jr. left this life on June 18 at the age of 91. I know he is happy once again walking hand in hand with his beloved wife Mary. They were married 70 years. Grover was a devoted husband, father, and great grandfather. He was a proud graduate of Tech High, where he participated in the Aeronautics program. The day after graduation he got on a troop train for WWII. After basic he was sent to Slippery Rock College where he studied to be a pilot. He served in the Airborne and flew B-17’s and B-24’s. He was also called backup to serve in Korea. Upon his return he met the love of his life, Mary McDaniel Walker. They had a love for the ages. After Korea Grover and his brother J.P. started a family business, Walker Heating Co. Later they opened Walker-J-Walker, Inc. which became one of the premier mechanical contracting business in the Mid South. In those days much business was done on a hand shake, Grovers word was his bond. Grover loved golf and was a life member of Colonial Country Club. Grover loved many things but family came first. He is preceded by his parents, Grover L. Walker Sr. (Irene), brother, John Powell, sister, Mary Margaret. He is survived by two sons, Grover L. Walker III (Susan), Scott McDaniel Walker (Melinda), sister, Jane McGoldrick, four grandchildren, Lee IV (Katelin), Kelly Hogen (Brett), Nicholas and Christopher, and four great-grandchildren. Grover was an active member of Kingsway Christian Church. Please send any memorials to the church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 23 from 9:00-10:00AM with the service to follow immediately. All services will be held at Memorial Park.
