Grace Kowalski's Obituary
Grace Amelia Kowalski, 92, died September 23rd, 2011, after a short illness. She is survived by three daughters, Jacqueline Grace Dorr (Clair) of Dewitt, MI, Susan Marie St. Pierre (Ernie) of Williamston, MI, and Patricia Anne Russell (W.L. “Buddy”) of Germantown, 7 grandchildren, Michael Dorr, Patrick Dorr, Trina Hidalgo, Aimee St. Pierre, Paul St. Pierre, Jackie Mitchell, John St. Pierre and her beloved five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Chester Michael Kowalski and her parents Hector and Lumina Collins. Born in Canada, Grace moved to Michigan at the age of six where she was raised and proudly became an American citizen at age 21. She met the love of her life, Chet Kowalski, at the age of 18 at the ice cream parlor where she worked. Grace and Chet married on August 10th, 1940, in Michigan where they resided until they relocated to Memphis in 1963. They were active members of St. Louis Catholic Church for nearly 50 years. Grace was well-known for her devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother. Her main vocation was her absolute dedication to her husband, three daughters and their families. She was a long-time member of Madonna Circle, as well as the St. Louis Catholic Church Fleur-de-lis and Holy Spirit Fun Group. Grace was an avid bridge player and participated in numerous bridge groups. She was known for her sparkling personality and good humor and loved being surrounded by her family and many friends. Grace was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be sorely missed by all. Visitation will be Monday, Sept 26th, from 5-8pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Sept 27th, at 10:00am at St. Louis Catholic Church with Monsignor John B. McArthur officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park.
