Glyn Evans Hollingsworth's Obituary
Glyn Evans Hollingsworth, 85, passed away in his Collierville, Tennessee home on March 24, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Glyn was born in Houston, Mississippi on June 5, 1926 to Robert Clay and Myrtie Pumphrey Hollingsworth, and lived in Big Creek, Mississippi until 1944 when he was drafted into the army. He served in the 96th Infantry Division and fought in the Pacific Battle of Okinawa during World War II. After the war, he entered the University of Mississippi where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, and upon graduation moved to Memphis to work for Union Planters’ Bank. Glyn married Bettie Nell Boyce, whom he had met at Ole Miss, on February 15, 1952 at Speedway Terrace Baptist Church, and they were happily married for 60 years. Glyn worked as a financial advisor for 54 years, and retired at the age of 83 from Wells Fargo. He served as President of the Memphis Security Dealers Association and the 96th Infantry Division Association. Glyn loved the Lord with all his heart, as demonstrated in the way he served people and loved his family. He served as a deacon at Graceland Baptist Church and Germantown Baptist Church, and was an active choir member in those churches for over 50 years. At the age of 77, he participated in a mission trip to Lima, Peru. Of his many ministries, he was most blessed by the opportunity to share his love of the Lord with the residents of Carriage Court Retirement Home. Glyn is survived by his wife, Bettie Nell, and their three daughters, Lorie Baker (Chip) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Leslie Logan (Tim) of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Stacy Jones (Robert) of Hernando, Mississippi. He leaves seven grandchildren, Emily Baker, Elizabeth Harper (Luke), Evan Logan (Kathe), Anna Katherine Logan, Joseph Logan, Heath Lemonds, and Seth Lemonds, one sister, Dorothy Jean Bryant of Cadaretta, Mississippi, and his special nephew and niece, Ray Hollingsworth and Charlotte Hollingsworth Hatfield. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday, March 26, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A celebration of his life will be held at Germantown Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 26, 11:00 am. Arrangements and burial are with Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Germantown Baptist Church, Gracewood Baptist Church of Southaven, Mississippi, or Brinkley Heights Urban Academy.
