Roberts, Gloria Baxter's Obituary
Gloria Jean Baxter Roberts was the youngest of 9 children born to Dink Hinds Baxter and Flossie Drummonds Baxter of Memphis, Tennessee.
She was born March 22, 1942 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, and passed away January 31, 2025 at the age of 82.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents, brothers Dan, Wallace, Bill and Thomas, as well as her sisters, Dorothy, Julia, Betty Jane, and Martha Ann. Gloria’s mother died when Gloria was 10 yrs old.
Gloria is survived by husband Bill Roberts of Collierville and son Jeff Roberts of Memphis as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria was a proud graduate of Southside High School in Memphis, class of 1960 and Draughon’s Business School. During her high school years, she was the organist at her church. She took piano lessons but could play by ear after hearing the music. She would later play at numerous times in church.
After completing business school, she went to work at John Gaston Hospital where she met her future husband, Bill. She and Bill both played on the bowling team. Before tying the marital knot, Gloria was always untying the shoelaces on Bill’s shoes. Gloria and Bill enjoyed over 62 years of a wonderful married life especially after the birth of their only child, Jeff.
Gloria was always involved in her church whether singing in the choir, playing the piano or working with the youth or young married couples.
Gloria lived in several different cities to include Memphis, Oklahoma City, Maryville, TN, El Paso, Tx., Jackson, Tn., and Collierville. She worked and retired from the Old Country Store in Jackson, TN where she was the secretary for the late Clark Shaw.
She loved playing her grand piano and playing the piano for the Jack Knox Sunday school class at Germantown Baptist Church. Gloria lover her savior, Jesus Christ, her family, her friends, her dog CoCo and her grand dog Teddy.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, February 3rd from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. all at Germantown Baptist Church, 9450 Poplar Ave, Germantown, TN, 38139.
