Glenda Louis Speight Boyd's Obituary
Glenda Louise Speight Boyd of Oxford, Mississippi and formerly of Southaven, Mississippi passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.
Glenda was born in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Mary Pritchard and James F. Speight. Glenda’s formative years were spent in Caruthersville, MO. After business school, Glenda began a 30 plus year career with Union Planters Bank, where she started as a secretary and ascended to a Senior Vice President to conclude her career.
Glenda remained active during retirement and was a beloved member and fixture at LaBelle Haven Baptist Church, where she facilitated bible studies, served on women’s ministries, and volunteered wherever asked, particularly, when it came to decorating for a big church event. Additionally, Glenda was immensely proud of her family and could always be counted on to provide love and support to her two grandchildren, who could no wrong in her eyes.
Glenda leaves her devoted high school sweetheart and husband of almost 60 years of marriage, Ronnie Boyd, of Oxford, Mississippi. Additionally, she leaves her son, Daniel Boyd and his wife Nicole of Oxford; granddaughter, Isabelle Boyd; grandson, Speight Boyd both of Oxford; and brother, James “Jim” Speight and his wife Mary Jane of Blytheville, Arkansas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Etta Speight Bennett and Plina Ann Speight Thomas.
Funeral services are Sunday, May 22nd at 2:30pm at LaBelle Haven Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi with Reverend Dean Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 at the church. Services will continue at church with internment to immediately follow at Memphis Memorial Park, Poplar Avenue.
Glenda, a lover of all things sugary and sweet, is now in heaven enjoying the greatest dessert ever.
