Gladys Mae Purvis' Obituary
GLADYS MAE PURVIS, 87, of Memphis, TN passed away on January 10, 2009 at her home. Gladys was born in Egypt, AR., April 19, 1921. she was a devout member of the Nazarene Church with a faith in God that was unparalleled. She was the widow of Damon D. Purvis and is survived by her brother Rev. John W. Taylor, his wife Mary Taylor of Victoria, Mississippi, two daughters, Janet Lee Roby of Drummonds, TN and Virginia Brady Abel of Memphis, TN. She leaves her sons-in-law George Douglas Roby and Robert Charles Abel, Sr., Grandchildren Robert Charles Abel, Jr., his wife Candice Marie Balkcom-Abel, George Douglas Roby II, Jeffrey Lee Roby, Douglas Alan Roby and George Michael Roby; Great-grandchildren, Zachary Roby, Douglas Alan Roby, Jr., Laurie Roby, Morgan Roby and soon to be born Corbin Douglas Roby. After 87 long years of hard work, caring and giving back to the ones she loves, she can now finally rest without pain or suffering. It was her strong belief in God, the love of her family, friends and neighbors that kept Gladys alive and strong for so many years. So many lives she had touched, people she had cared for and spirits lifted made her the wonderful woman that she was.
