Gilbert Watkins' Obituary
Gilbert Edward Watkins, 94, passed away July 27, 2014. He was born May 10, 1920 in Covington, TN to Henry E. and Nettie Crump Watkins. Mr. Watkins was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during WWII and participated in the landings at Omaha Beach. He was an active member at Cherokee Baptist Church. After his retirement from Interstate Life and Accident Company, he continued working part-time operating the Carousel at Hickory Hill Mall. Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his wife, Delores “Irene” Dagastino Watkins; parents; brothers, Earnest, Leonard and Charles Watkins; as well as infant brother; sisters, Lille Shelley, Oma Wiseman; Allie Watkins, Eula Mashburn, Frances Parham and Ruth Mulhearn. He is survived by his children, Barbara Watkins Anderson (Wayne), Julie Watkins Price (Jimmy) and Dale Watkins (Anita); grandchildren, Shane Whitley (Karin), Tara Dunlap (Joey), Jeremy Richardson, Jana Hooker (Jared), Tyler Watkins (Havila) and Emily Watkins and great grandchildren, Brandon Robinson, Angelica Dunlap, Derrek Dunlap and Jimmy Flowers. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service begins at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southwoods Cemetery.
