Gilbert Eugene Carson Jr.'s Obituary
Gilbert Eugene Carson Jr., born November 6th 1949, was the ultimate family man. He was always there for his daughters and granddaughter, never missing an event. He always treated their friends as his own kids.
Married to his devoted junior high school sweetheart, Sandra, for what would have been 53 years in November, he never missed a Valentine’s Day or anniversary to celebrate their love for each other and the family they built together. He always helped out family, friends, and the community in any way he could whenever there was a need.
Gilbert never met a stranger. He always engaged with people, no matter the situation, and discussed any subject, especially sports. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, he and his Carson brothers were diehard Memphis Tigers fans, including a long-time member of the Highland Hundred. The brothers all passed their love for the Memphis Tigers onto their children and grandchildren.
Raised Roman Catholic, Gilbert graduated from Memphis Catholic High School. While attending Christian Brothers University College, he joined the Army Reserves and returned to school once his term was completed. He was a certified and licensed program manager for Shoney’s, maintaining the mainframe computer generator and help desk. He continued his expertise at Jimmy Dean and Sara Lee Corporation. Anyone who knew Gilbert knew his support for the Memphis Tigers and passion for all sports. He also enjoyed taking his girls to the bowling alley for a night out.
Gilbert passed away on September 19, 2023, peacefully in the comfort of his own home and with his family, finally free from pain. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sandra Carson, loving daughters, Hollye Davis and Robyn Carson, cherished granddaughter, Madeline Mccarver, and brother, Gary Carson and his wife Cindy Carson. Gilbert is preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Carson, parents, Rita Southard and Gilbert Carson Sr., and half-sister, Paula Thomas.
Gilbert’s memorial services celebrating his life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN. The family viewing will be at 10:00 a.m., with the service at 11:00 a.m. at the Fireside Chapel. The burial service will be at 12:00 p.m. to toast his life.
His girls lost their rock and miss him, but they know he is with his family and friends who have passed before him, running along pain-free again. His memory of being their big ole teddy bear will never die, and his spirit will continue to live on in their hearts forever.
