Gerald Stratton's Obituary
GERALD BROWN STRATTON, 87, died peacefully at his home on May 21, 2011. Gerald, a lifelong Memphian, graduated from Central High School and was a active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Christian Home Builders Sunday School Class. Following high school, Gerald joined the U.S. Navy and attended Midshipman’s School at Northwestern University, and completed officer training at Mississippi College and Princeton University. After serving as a Naval officer on board on a LST during WWII, Gerald was honorably discharged. Gerald returned to Memphis after the war and attended Memphis State College and UT Dental College. Gerald’s loved of architecture and design took him to Georgia Tech, where he ultimately received his Bachelor of Architecture from Georgia Tech. Immediately following graduation from Georgia Tech, Gerald joined the Architectural firm of Thomas Farries as an associate. In 1967, Gerald along with three partners, formed the firm, Thorn, Howe, Stratton, Strong. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Drusilla Lomax Stratton. He is survived by his three children, Rebecca Lynne Stratton, John David Stratton, and Jennifer Stratton Muhlbauer and her son-in-law, Michael Scott Muhlbauer. A visitation will be Wednesday, May 25 from 5-7 p.m., and services will be held Thursday, May 26 at 11:30 a.m., all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
