Gerald "Jerry" LaRue's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” LaRue, was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on March 18, 1948 and departed this life on March 3, 2021 at the age of 72. He grew up in Florida in a family of four; his father, Clifford LaRue who worked for Eastern Airlines, mother, Blanche LaRue and a brother Cliff LaRue.
Jerry attended college at Southern Missouri on a football scholarship. He then served proudly in the US Air Force in Vietnam where he worked on airplanes. Since he grew up around planes, he was already well suited for the job. He achieved the rank of sergeant.
In 1971 he met his wife of over 49 years, Melanie Scott, whom he later married in December of that same year. He was a foster dad to nine children and the father of two children, Michelle LaRue of Georgia, and Michael LaRue of Memphis along with a grandson, Paxton.
After marrying and moving to Memphis, Jerry later attended Memphis State and finished a degree in Education. He later went to work for Sears and retired after 45 years there.
Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included golf and art. He even painted his daughter’s room with a mural of Disney characters.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, March 27 from 1:30 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:30 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The entombment will immediately follow.
