Gerald W. Bass' Obituary
After facing a brave fight against cancer, Gerald Wayne Bass passed away on February 7, 2024 at age 87. He is predeceased by his wife, Emma Jean Walden Bass, parents Lucy Prosser Bass and Grady Bass, his brother Gary Bass, and his sister DeLynn Bass McKnight.
Gerald was born in Prospect, Tennessee and he was raised in the area. Gerald graduated from Tennessee Tech and went on to receive a master’s degree in industrial arts from Oklahoma State University. He taught industrial arts for several years at Moore County High School in Lynchburg, Tennessee before going on to work for Electrolux for over 30 years in various local, then regional, sales leadership roles. While living in Lynchburg, he met Emma Jean Walden who was assigned there to do her student teaching. Not long after they met, they were married and went on to celebrate 59 years together before her death in 2021.
In addition to his work at Electrolux, Gerald loved antique cars. His favorite was the green ’54 Ford that his father originally owned. Gerald lovingly restored the car, and it was used in the background of many movies that were filmed in Memphis and set in the 50s such as Great Balls of Fire and Walk the Line.
Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Dawn Popovitch (Rob) of Southlake, Texas and Deborah Gibbs (Mike) of Memphis, Tennessee; his two granddaughters Katy Popovitch and Emma Frances Gibbs; and his many nieces and nephews, and extended family and dear friends.
The visitation for Mr. Bass will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, February 16, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
