Georgia Russell's Obituary
In loving memory of Georgia Ann Young Butler-Russell Georgia passed on peacefully through the grace of God, Monday, June 27th, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She is predeceased by her two husbands, Gene Hedrick Butler in 1972 and Wallace Ray Russell in 1996. She is survived by her sister Frances Cattaneo. She leaves behind her children Randolph and Douglas Butler, Pam (Lee), Tim, Mike and Mark Russell and their spouses Sheila Butler, Sherri Butler, Glen Lee and Cindy Russell. She was blessed with eight grandchildren Ashley, Kyle, Katherine and Samantha Butler, Jason, John and Beth Lee, Alexandra Russell and two Great grandchildren Adelyn and Claire Lee. She was a loving and devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Georgia lived a full and giving life. She was a teacher of Whitehaven Methodist Day School/The Wesley School for over 30 years. She was active in all facets of Whitehaven Methodist Church that included the Choir, Women’s Guild, Boy Scouts and MYF to name a few. Upon retirement she continued her passion for volunteer work through service to the Methodist Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, First Works and many others. Her continuous devotion to help others was evident in her commitment to the Parkview community where she was a beloved resident. Her ceaseless energy and volunteer work was recognized when she was honored as a recipient of the 2010 Women of Stamina Award for the city of Memphis. Her love of life and Christian spirit brought joy to her family and many long term close friends. They were always paramount in her heart and mind. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 29th from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 30th at 1:00pm at Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Volunteer Services at Methodist University Hospital or First United Methodist Church Volunteer Missions.
