Georgia Barnett Haughey's Obituary
Georgia Barnett Haughey, 98, originally of Memphis, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at her home in Treasure Island, Florida. Mrs. Haughey was born in Sabino, MS, in 1911 and later moved to Memphis where she was director at the Army Air Force Depot on Jackson Avenue. While her three brothers were serving their country in the Air Force, Army, and Navy at the same time, she held down the home front war job along with her sister, Julia. She was the first licensed female building contractor in the stat of Tennessee. She was a charter member of Kingsway Christian Church in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her father, George Washington Barnett, her mother, Mary Birdsong Barnett both of Clarksdale; her husband, Harold Haughey; two brothers, Leon Barnett and William C. Barnett; two sisters, Tess Thompson and Julia Campbell. She is survived by her brother, J.B. Barnett of Memphis; seven nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 21 great-great nieces and nephews.
