George J. Vanek's Obituary
George J. Vanek passed away on December 28, 2009. He was born on June 16, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Czech immigrant parents. He graduated from Western Reserve University in 1937. He served for four years in the United States Army Signal Corps and graduated from Case University Law School in 1946. He spent most of his career working for The Ohio Casualty Insurance Company, retiring in 1985 as the Claims Manager for the Memphis and Mid-South office. He is survived by his wife, Jean Banek; his son, Noel Dean Vanek (Linda), of Forest Hills, NY; his step-children, James Avery (Karen), Susan Finnern (Mike), Patty Morris (Eli), and Joni Lipsey (Tom), of CIncinnati, OH; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Irene Gauthier; and their younger son, Steven. He also leaves behind, Joan Bounds and Stephanie Ware, his loving caregivers for many years.
