George E. "Tip" Riggins, Jr.'s Obituary
George E. “Tip” Riggins, Jr. passed away at St. Francis Hospital on January 24, 2019. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, George E. Riggins, Sr. and Frances Riggins.He leaves his wife of 51 years, Sherry Adler Riggins, his son Brent Emory (Teresa), daughter Robin Louise, and three grandchildren, Laurin Emory Brimble (Mark), Mary Jane Hedden, and Foster Hedden.Tip was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was always ready to lend his help, his ear, and humor to family and friends.A life- long Memphian, Tip attended St. Thomas Elementary, Christian Brothers High School, and Memphis State University. After retiring from the Illinois Central Railroad (Canadian National) after 30 years, Tip enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. He was a diehard fan of Alabama football, University of Memphis athletics, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church.The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 31st from five o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, with a rosary at seven o’clock in the evening. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 1st at ten o’clock in the morning at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3863 Summer Avenue in Memphis. The committal service will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery via an escorted cortege.In lieu of flowers, Tip had requested that donations be made to St. Michael Catholic Church, 3863 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN 38122.
