George A. Schroth's Obituary
Mr. George A. Schroth, 86, of East Memphis, passed away on November 15th at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital. He lived a full and generous life, even after being the fortunate recipient of a heart transplant in February, 1998. Mr. Schroth, son of Charles John Schroth and Louise Merdian Schroth was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and was a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. After earning his C.P.A., Mr. Schroth worked for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company in New York, NY, before joining Dover Elevator in Horn Lake, MS, where he was employed for 33 years. He retired as Secretary and Vice President of Finance of Dover Elevator International in 1994. He is a past president of the Financial Executives Institute and also served in the U.S. Navy before being honorably discharged in 1950. Mr. Schroth was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and formerly a member of Whitehaven Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and was also a chairman of the Dioconate. Travel, visiting the Gulf Coast, spending time with his grandchildren, and volunteering for MIFA and the Bibles For China Thrift Center were some of his favorite activities during retirement. He leaves behind his beloved wife of over fifty years, Ruthann Schroth. He also leaves two daughters, Dawn Schroth of Collierville, TN, and Lisa Schroth Hall (Bart) of Knoxville, TN, and one son, George Schroth, Jr. (Rusty), of Scarborough, ME. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, November 18 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to the Salvation Army, the Second Presbyterian Church Caring Department, or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
