George Matthew "Matt" Viger's Obituary
It is with heartfelt sadness and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of George Matthew “Matt” Viger, who left us on August 7, 2024, at the age of 69. Matt was a cherished husband, loving father, and a devout LSU Tiger fan who wore his purple and gold with pride.
Matt was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and later made his home in Byhalia, Mississippi. Matt’s heart belonged to his family and found joy in spending time with his wife, Julie, his children, Erin and Allyson, and his puppy dogs, Porthos and Watson.
Matt was always so proud of his girls and talked about them to anyone that would listen. He always loved his LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints but made sure to root for his daughters’ alma maters, Memphis Tigers (Erin) and Ole Miss Rebels (Allyson). His son-in-law, Clinton, loves the Minnesota Vikings, and Matt always told him that they were his “second favorite team.” Matt also always loved cooking for his family; with his specialties being his cheeseburgers, pizza, shrimp dip, and crawfish etouffee.
Matt is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his children, Erin (Clinton) and Allyson (Austin); his brothers: Jimmy and Wick; and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Betty Viger; his oldest brother, Kenny; and his nephews, Teddy Viger and Tyler Sweningson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Matt’s presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit, love, and enthusiasm will forever remain in our hearts. Rest peacefully and Geaux Tigers!
