George Johnson's Obituary
George W. Johnson, 73, of Olive Branch, MS died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Methodist University Hospital-Memphis. He was a 1956 graduate of TechHigh School, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for four years and was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Mr. Johnson was a sheet metal worker for Illinois Central Railroad for 8 years, Engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad for 36 years, coached for 26 years in DesotoCounty; Pee Wee Baseball, Pee Wee Football, Little League Baseball, Pony League Baseball, American Legion Baseball and Memphis Prep 7-8 grade football. He was preceded in death by his parents William Roy and Maxine Johnson and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Cole Johnson; sons, Pat (Pam), Ricky (Debbie) and Michael (Simone); granddaughters, Jennifer, Jaimie, AnnaBelle and Allie; grandson, Grant; many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Wednesday, January 4 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 5 at Faith Presbyterian Church-Germantown with the interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests memorials to be sent to Faith Presbyterian Church 8816 Poplar Pike, Germantown, TN38138 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
