George Farmer's Obituary
George William Farmer, 91, died on November 18, 2012 at his home. Born on June 30, 1921, he grew up and attended school in Macon, GA obtaining a Master’s Degree from Mercer University. In August of 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army and during WWII, he fought in Europe with the 94th Infantry Division, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was most proud of his Combat Infantry Badge. While in England, during the war, he fell in love and married Joan Steward who was serving in the British Army. They were married for 64 years until Joan’s death in 2008. Together they had five children: Anne Castens (Bill), Vicki Knight (Greg), Kim Lane (Tim), Jan Childers (Jamie), and Stuart Farmer (Vivian). He was also loved by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and loving family friend, Eartha Daniel. George worked for Sears for almost 40 years before his retirement. He was an avid reader, enjoyed discussing politics and current events, and cracking jokes. In recent years he has enjoyed spending time with other WWII Veterans through his association with Forever Young Senior Wish Organization. He touched the lives of many with his wit and wisdom. He loved his family dearly and loved his country fervently. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until service time at 1:00, Friday, November 23 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial with Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
