Every time Laura performed, he and Jan were there. I remember driving an hour to Annapolis to hear Laura perform a concerto, and after I got settled in my seat, sure enough, I turned around and George and Jan and the whole family were there! Of course! They did not miss a WoCo Fest or any opportunity to affirm Laura.

One of my favorite stories I've ever heard at a party was George's story of fitting a piano into their home in the early days of their marriage so that Jan would have a way to play. It was such a beautiful story of love and creativity and determination. A bright light has left us, but his love shines on.

George was Mike's boss and that relationship blossomed from 1993 to 2004. George visited him after pancreatic cancer diagnosis both at home and in hospital. Each visit and phone call filled laughter and George's special brand of encouragement. To Jan, Jason and Laura. May George's memory always be a blessing

I always enjoyed being with George. Suzanne and I took a trip to Chattanooga with George and Jan to watch a MUS football game when Jason and Rob were playing. We stopped and took a quick motor tour of Sewanee: The University of the South on the way back and enjoyed hearing about music camp there. My favorite quote from George occurred when I asked him about finding me the perfect business to invest in and he told me “that when he found it he would buy it himself !” : ) So sorry for your loss. George will be missed.

I want to share a few words about George, a truly wonderful man whose kindness touched my life. I nanny Jason’s children, Declan and Jules, and through them I became close to the Colgate family. From the moment I met George and his wife Jan, they welcomed me with so much warmth.

George had a deep knowledge of my home country, Sudan, something that meant a lot to me and my husband. It showed how thoughtful and open-minded he was.

I will always remember the day George and Jan came to my home for lunch. Even though he wasn’t in the best health, he was incredibly sweet and kind. The next day he sent me beautiful flowers—one of the kindest gestures I’ve ever received. I still keep the picture.

We also spent a lovely time at Jason’s house, listening to Jan and Jason play music while George sat with us, smiling and enjoying the moment.

I am grateful to have known George. His gentleness, respect, and kindness will always stay in my heart. May he rest in peace.

My fondest memories of George include seeing him at every single music program his wife, Jan, produced at St. George's Independent School. I am certain he never missed one performance and there had to be hundreds, if not thousands. He always wore a smile and was kind to everyone, especially Jan. In his consistent way, George modeled true love. He demonstrated how things should be done, to be a good spouse and a good friend. I am profoundly grateful to have known him. How good God is for bringing such remarkable characters such as George into our lives. Sincere condolences to the Colgate family. I am sorry for this loss. Gia Broadway
