Dr. George H. Burkle III's Obituary
Dr. George H. Burkle III, of Memphis, TN passed away November 16 2018 at Germantown Methodist Hospital after a long illness. He was born on August 29, 1934 in Memphis, TN and was the son of Dr. George H. Burkle, Jr. and Verna Mae Burkle. He attended Snowden Elementary School, and Christian Brothers High School, University of TN, and University of TN Medical College (UTHSC) in Memphis. He served his country in the Air Force and then did an Internship at Washington DC General. He did his residence in U of L Hospitals in General surgery, and VA Hospitals in Wadsworth, KA in Geriatric surgery. He met his loving wife of 54 years , Anna Lee Brumleve Burkle in Louisville, KY., and they were married in 1964. He practiced medicine in Memphis in General Surgery and the VA Hospital in Spinal Cord Injury retiring in 1999. He was fondly known by his friends at Bellevue Baptist Church as “Dr. George” who wanted to Share what God had blessed him with to anyone who had a need. George is survived by his wife, Anna Lee, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren to include, Scott, Jason, Ian, Adrea, Tonya, Erin, Aiden, Avery and Piper, Harrison, Ryan and Megan “Alex”, sister Dianne Burkle Steen, and many cousins. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. with the service to follow immediately at 10:00 a.m. All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Bellevue Baptist Church, Love Worth Finding Ministries or Prison Fellowship Ministries or the charity of donor’s choice.
