George Lovelace Barker, Jr.'s Obituary
George Lovelace Barker Jr., 48, passed away on September 12, 2011 to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his mother Jane, father George Sr., brothers, sister, niece and nephew as well as many aunts, cousins and friends. George was born in Birmingham Alabama in 1962 and moved to Memphis with his family in 1967 where he attended Aurburndale (St. Benedict’s) and is a graduate of the Christian Brothers High School class of 1981. George Jr. is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville Business School class of 1986, member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and University of Phoenix MBA program. After Business School he moved to Chattanooga where he managed a restaurant and developed his love for cooking. He moved back to Memphis in the early 90¹s and started his own catering business. George Jr. overflowed with generosity for others; always wanting to help someone out. He was an avid book reader and trivia enthusiast. He loved taking his dogs to the park and riding bikes all over Memphis. George was also a dedicated music lover who played the guitar and supported local bands like “The Crime” though out his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the ³Brother Adrian Powers Memorial Scholarship² at Christian Brothers High School 5900 Walnut Grove Rd Memphis, TN. 38120 or St. George’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund 2425 S. Germantown Road, Germantown TN. 38138. A memorial service will be held at St. Georges Episcopal Church 2425 S. Germantown Road, Germantown TN. 38138 on Wednesday September 21 at 11:00am.
