Genevieve "Genny" Cockrell's Obituary
Genevieve Elizabeth “Genny” Cockrell, 60, passed away April 18, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – East in Memphis. Genny beat Breast Cancer over 20 years ago. She lived and proclaimed her Catholic faith. Genny served at St. Anne as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, RCIA, and an Altar Society member. A very special occasion in Genny’s life was her opportunity to meet and sign Mother Teresa’s Message at the 150th anniversary of the first Catholic Mass in Memphis. For over 30 years, she was a loving and devoted Nanny for many Memphis families. The last 10 years she was a dedicated Nanny to Estelle, Henry and the entire Turner family. Genny was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Genny Cockrell. She is survived by her biological daughter, Elisabeth Green; siblings, Ruth Ellen Martin (Richard), Harry Cockrell ( Linda), Betty Jean Barber (Eddie), Mary Virginia Rickles, and Sharon Hook; grandchildren, Kathleen and William Mathers; eight nephews; five nieces; 12 great nephews; 12 great nieces; two great-great nieces; and devoted life-long best friend, Kriste Cull (Tony). The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until the Rosary begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 and her Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 22 both at St. Anne Catholic Church on Highland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 706 S. Highland, Memphis, TN 38111.
