Gene Martis Mauney, Sr.'s Obituary
Our beloved Husband, Daddy, Brother, Papaw, Uncle and Friend entered into eternal rest on March 4, 2021. Gene Mauney was born in Ripley, MS on April 1, 1938. He was the second of nine children. He attended Pine Grove School and later came to Memphis, TN to work. This is where he met and married Barbara Burns of Leland, MS. They moved to Collierville, TN in 1970 and raised two children. Gene enjoyed a 34-year career at Carrier Air Conditioning in Collierville where he retired as an electrician. Gene and Barbara were married 50 years as of April 11, 2020. Gene attended Grace Chapel in Collierville in his later years. Those who knew Gene, will remember him for his quiet and loving nature, his love for peppermint candy, and how he enjoyed gardening and raising German Shepherds.
Gene was preceded in death by his Father - Jody Jasper Mauney, Mother - Mary Frances Knowles Mauney, eldest brother Rudolph Mauney and youngest brother Lewis Mauney. Survivors include his wife Barbara Mauney, his two children: Pamela Mauney Laszacs-Burkey (Martin Burkey) and Gene Martis Mauney, Jr. and two grandchildren: Stanley Laszacs and Thomas Burkey, brothers and sisters include Bonnie Mauney (Sandra Mauney), Arthur Mauney (Lanell Mauney), Guy Mauney, Evelyn Winstead, Edith Ridge (Wayne Ridge), Shelby Mauney, and many nieces and nephews.
We thank our Heavenly Father for giving us 82 years of memories with Gene. While he has physically left us, we are filled with cherished memories and know one day we shall be reunited.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, March 13 from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The entombment will immediately follow.
