Gene Hill's Obituary
Eugene Hill, 89, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes September 17, 2016. He was a proud World War II U.S. Navy veteran, who served in the South Pacific from 1945 until 1946. Soon after, he married Mary Bess Richie and moved to Memphis. They had one son, Tyrone “Tony” Hill. Mary and Gene were married for 52 years. After the death of his first wife, he married Mildred Acred, and they were married for 18 years until her recent death. Gene owned Builder Carpets until he retired. He then volunteered at Grimes United Methodist Church and Mullins United Methodist Church. Gene loved to work and would help anyone who was in need. He and both his wives loved ballroom dancing. He also enjoyed working in the yard. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters, and brother. Gene is survived by his son, Tony Hill (Barbara); four grandchildren, Cari Sage, Cher Hill, Eydie Tyer, and Staff Sergeant Joseph Hill; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, September 20 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 21 at Mullins United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mullins UMC. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Celebrating Life Behind the Stone Wall”.
