Gean S. Fisher's Obituary
Gean S. Fisher of Memphis passed away peacefully on April 21, 2019, with her family by her side. She was 97 years old.Gean was born November 8th, 1921 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the daughter of Eugene and Luna Sisk. She was preceded in death by her parents, three of her siblings, (A.T. Sisk, Dorothy Gowen, and Philip Sisk) and her daughter (Sharon Corbett).She is survived by her sister Martha Hooper (Lamar), her daughter Debra Moody (Terry), son Scot Fisher. She has 4 grandchildren: Ted Moody, Wes Moody, Tim Moody (Mary) and Laura Holland (Josh), and 1 great grandchild Allie Holland.During WWII, Gean worked in a bank in Blytheville. It was there she met the love of her life, Ted Fisher. He had been stationed at the Air Force Base and would bring payroll to the bank. They both would laugh and say they thought the other had a lot of money.They married and had three children: Sharon, Debra, and Scot. They lived a wonderful life. In 1971, Ted passed away, leaving Gean to raise her younger children at home, Debra and Scot, while Sharon was in college.After being a wife and stay at home mom for 30 years, she went to work for South Central Bell in Memphis. She transferred to Nashville and eventually retired in 1993. After retirement, she returned to Memphis to be near her family and mostly, her grandchildren.Her love for her family was strong and unconditional. She loved being with her children and siblings. But, her top priority – the grandchildren. There was always fun and laughter, and of course, lots of spoiling.Gean loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Memphis Tigers. She listened to their games on the radio. Her favorite preacher was J. Vernon McGee. She listened to Elvis Gospel Songs and was an avid crossword puzzle fan.She was called Grandmom by her grandchildren but her son-in-law affectionately called her, “The Wicked Mother-In-Law of the West”.Her Love and kindness will be missed by all.In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to: Confidential Care Mobile Ministry 10620 Highway 51 South, Suite 4 Atoka, Tennessee 38004The family will receive friends at Memorial Park on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Memorial Park on Friday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.Interment will follow the funeral service in Memorial Park Cemetery.All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “A Fitting Farewell for Everyone”.
