Gayle Fox Thomason's Obituary
Gayle Fox Thomason, 76, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025. Born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 13, 1949, Gayle grew up in Memphis and was the daughter of the late James Carl Fox and Betty Ann Fox.
Gayle's life was a testament to her deep and abiding faith. A dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, she also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Her deep faith provided immense comfort and strength, remaining steadfast until her passing.
Gayle graduated with a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. As the family moved across the country, she dedicated herself to creating a beautiful and welcoming home. She was a constant and unwavering presence in her sons’ lives, pouring her time and love into their schools and sports activities.
A true southern lady with a spirited wit, Gayle was known for her kindness, resilience, and incredible ability to make a fast friend of anyone she met. She loved to laugh and share stories when hosting family and friends. Her passions included golf, reading on the beach, and travel, and she was an active member of the Cliffs Valley Ladies Golf Association where she was past president and co-chaired several charitable golf tournaments.
To know Gayle was to love her, and she had a hard time saying goodbye. Whether it was the end of a phone call, a family visit, or an evening out with friends, she always found a way to extend the moment, savoring every last bit of time together.
Gayle is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Marvin Thomason; her sons, Mat Thomason and his wife Kim, and Jim Thomason and his wife Annie. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Fox, Amelia, Noah, Rory, Austin, Addie, and Ashton. She is also survived by her sisters, Betsy Clayton and her husband Alan, and Jackie Clark and her husband John; her sister-in-law, Gayle Myatt; and her cousin, Kay Hinkle and her husband Ed.
A funeral service to celebrate Gayle’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, with visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119.
