Gayle Carlin Forsythe's Obituary
Gayle Carlin Forsythe, aged 96, of Lakeland, TN, passed away on December 2, 2024. She was born on February 15, 1928 in McNairy County, TN to the late James Troy Carlin and Mamie McAlpin Carlin. During her life, she moved around McNairy County, Corinth, MS, Jackson, TN, Nashville, TN and then moved to the Memphis area from the early 1960’s and onward.
She is survived by her son Jim Forsythe, her son Donnie Forsythe (Carolyn), her grandchildren Wayne Forsythe (Lisa), Eddie Forsythe (Bridgett), Eric Forsythe (Angi), Clint Forsythe (Roshanda), Justin “BoBo” Forsythe (Morgan), Lindsey Miller (Anthony), Ashton Roberts (Darrell), 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Troy and Mamie McAplin Carlin, her husband James Edward Forsythe, by her brothers James Troy Carlin and Joe Robert Carlin, her sister Shirley Fulton, her son Ronnie Forsythe, and one great-granddaughter.
She loved God with all of her heart, loved to talk about Jesus, and was a member of the Oliver Creek Church of Christ. She was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved watching football, basketball and old TV shows. She had a passion for flowers and birds, gardening, and everything beautiful in God’s creation. Later in life, she became a prolific artist, taking up oil painting and pencil sketching. She loved to cook and made amazing dishes, but she never had a specific recipe. She loved to reminisce on good times with family, telling old stories that she kept filed away. But most importantly, she loved her family and always thought about and prayed for them. Her legacy will be that she always made everyone around her feel special and loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 12:00pm at the Oliver Creek Church of Christ 8313 Hwy 70 in Arlington, TN with a visitation starting at 10:00am. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis following.
Gayle will forever be in our hearts. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on, and we look forward to seeing her again one day
