Garner McDaniel's Obituary
Garner McDaniel of Memphis passed away on April 8 after a long illness. He was born on June 13, 1927 and grew up in the Brighton, Munford, Rosemark area of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Sue McDaniel; daughters, Betty Owen and Jerri Sue Strickland; parents, Les and Sadie McDaniel; brother, C.L. McDaniel; and sisters, Dot Simpson and Elizabeth Pike. Mr. McDaniel is survived by his son, Jerry McDaniel and his wife, Linda of Bartlett, brother, Gene McDaniel; sister, Margie Buzbee of West Palm Beach, FL; and five grandchildren, Hilary Aleman, Nicholas McDaniel, Patrick Strickland, Wendy Bryan, and Kevin Owen. He served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship Iowa. Early in his life he was employed by International Harvester and Borg Warner. Later he owned and operated three grocery stores and was a partner in Premier Homes, building homes in Southaven, Memphis, Bartlett, and Collierville. He also built and owned several U.S. Post Offices. He traveled extensively with his wife, Billie Sue, until her death in 1991. His later years were marked with ill health but he remained cheerful and friendly with all of this friends and family. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the graveside service begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
