Frederick "Lin" Lawrence's Obituary
Frederick “Lin” Lawrence, A lifelong resident of Memphis, TN died on December 7, 2019 after complications from a fall. Lin was born on October 14, 1940 in Memphis, TN. His great -great grandfathers, Lawrence, one of four Lawrence brothers were the surveyors who layed out the city of Memphis. One of which went on to become the fourth mayor of Memphis. Lin attended Snowden, graduating from Central High School at the top of his class. He then went on to Memphis State undergraduate and Memphis State Law School graduating in 1965. While at Memphis State Lin became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity making lifelong friends and memories. One of which was taking Elvis Presley’s secretary to one of their big parties and later working with his PKA brothers in Jackson Hole Wyoming.His first job as a young attorney was in Florida, doing contract negotiations for the NASA Space Program. Lin then returned to Memphis to start his own financial firm, Tennessee Capital Corp., becoming one of the youngest board members of the National Association of Securities Dealers. His talent for negotiating deals served his clients well in all financial matters. Lin was not only a Memphis State football and basketball fan but had a lifelong love of golf, practicing daily to improve his swing and game. We are all confident that Lin will find his personal hitting bay in Heavens driving range.Lin was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Sr. and Clara Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Nina, his sister, Judy McKay (Ken), nephew, Greg Campbell, his boys John Henry and Frederick Campbell, niece, Debbie Sodec (Jeremy) their boys Cameron and Cooper Sodec. Along with old and dear friends he grew up with.The family will receive friends for food and fellowship on Thursday, December 12 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a graveside service celebrating his Life to follow at 2:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930
