Fred Wood's Obituary
Rev. Dr. Fred M. Wood of Memphis was called home to be with the Lord May 4, 2010. Dr. Wood was the Pastor at Eudora Baptist Church in Memphis for 31 years. In addition to his Pastoral Service, Dr. Wood served as an educator at Union University, Midwestern Theology Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri and various Southern Baptist Colleges and Seminaries. Dr. Wood was an accomplished author publishing 16 books and numerous resources for Southern Baptist Publications, Sunday school lessons, as well as educational study material. Dr. Wood received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1944 from Union University. His education also included a Bachelors of Divinity, Masters in Divinity and a PhD Doctorate degree specializing in the Old Testament and Hebrew, and a Doctorate in Divinity in 1962. Dr. Wood’s accomplishments also include recognition in the Who’s Who in Religion in 1974, President of the Tennessee Baptist Convention 1972-1973, and a member of the Board of Trustees for a number of Southern Baptist Institutions including Baptist Hospital in Memphis and Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Dr. Wood leaves his wife Lillie B. Wood, son David Wood and his wife Ginny of Memphis, daughter in law Glenda Wood Linton of Germantown, Grandchildren Kristen Wood of Memphis, Diane Wood Tucker and her husband Timothy of Huntington, TN, Scott Wood and his wife Molly of Boise, ID; Great-grandchildren Will Tucker, Matthew Tucker, and Jack Tucker all of Huntington, TN. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 11:00 until service time at 1:00 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial contributions can be to Union University in Jackson, TN or Life Choices.
