My wife and I have known Fred and Louise over 20 years and during that time shared a relationship that was rewarding and an acknowledgement to a friendship based on many similarities experienced while living life. They each found the love of their life after a police incident sent Fred to the ER and Louise was his take charge red headed nurse. It was love at first bandage so to speak. It was a rewarding life for them while and each in their own way accomplished many goals. One of their most rewarding accomplishments was having a loving family who in later years supported them with love and an unwavering devotion. Louise was the love of his life and he loved her banana nut bread as did everyone she so generously made it for.
For many years I met with Fred and sometime others at a weekly breakfast just to talk. Later after Louise’s passing, we met a Fred’s house, and it was here I learned a lot about him as I heard the stories of his military endeavors and triumph through sports and school of hard knocks. I respect his service as a policeman in many capacities up to and including retiring after 37 years as Deputy Chief. That is amazing and a testament to his desire to excel, his professionalism and overall competitive nature.
Church brought us together where our friendship grew. In the later years my wife and I looked forward to our weekly breakfast of coffee and sausage biscuits or McGriddle; the latter of which I introduced to him vs. the biscuit. Now I don’t think I knew anyone who loved sausage more than he did; “that’s a good sandwich” he would say as he reminisced about his army days in Germany and his exploits as a fighter. According to him he never lost. His Captain was super happy and after Fred declined to reenlist, he was flown back vs. on a troop ship like all his buddies. He often talked about how surprised they were when they all met at Fort Leonard Wood. He smiled a lot then. Smiles also abundant when he talked about his accomplishments as a policeman who earned the name “baby face”. I can’t explain that one here.
We cherished our friendship and truly admired him as an amazing friend. He will be missed here but now he and Louise can reminisce together.
