Franklin Mathis' Obituary
Franklin Wayne Mathis, 77, of Collierville, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy Mathis; son, David C. Mathis (Lisa), of Memphis, TN; and daughters, Nunda M. Morris (John), of Southaven, MS and Deidre M. Channing (Robert), of Searcy, AR; as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandson. He leaves a sister, Patricia McOwen, of Hernando, MS; and two brothers, Don Mathis, of Hernando, MS and Ron Mathis (Sharon), of Centennial, CO. He was predeceased by his first wife, Reba Watkins Mathis and parents, Ernest C. and Cathleen Peek Mathis. Mr. Mathis attended Freed-Hardeman College, then served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Buck (1954-1958), and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2002 after 44 years of service. Mr. Mathis was a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ. Visitation for Mr. Mathis will be held from 5-7 pm. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with the funeral being held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the funeral home. The interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests donations be sent to Agape Child and Family Services, the Mid-South Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
