Dr. Frank J. Osborn's Obituary
Frank Jackson Osborn, M.D., 76, died October 14, 2011. Born in Florence, Alabama, on August 12, 1935 to Frank Jasper Osborn and Florence Loveless Osborn, Dr. Osborn attended Murray State University and then served in the U.S. Army at Fort Meade, MD, where he was a member of the Second Army Headquarters Band. After continuing his education at Memphis State University, he entered medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis in 1961, and received his M.D. degree in 1964. Dr. Osborn’s graduate medical education included internship at City of Memphis Hospitals, followed by residency and chief residency in general surgery and urology at Methodist Hospital, all in Memphis, followed by training in urologic pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. Dr. Osborn entered private practice in urology in 1970, and retired in 2004 after 34 years in practice. Dr. Osborn was truly a dedicated physician who enjoyed treating generations of patients, including parents and their children. Dr. Osborn was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Diplomat of the American Board of Urology, member of the Memphis Doctors Band, and served as Chief of Staff of Methodist Hospital South. Dr. Osborn was a skilled woodworker, model railroader, musician and gardener, having over 300 varieties of daylilies in his garden. He was an avid reader, with a special interest in history. In his retirement he loved to travel, especially to Europe. Dr. Osborn was blessed with a life filled with enjoyment and service to others through his medical practice, but he loved nothing more than his wife of 48 years, Liz, and being surrounded by his two children, their spouses, and his five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Head Osborn, his two children, Dr. Laurie Osborn Moody (David) and Dr. Frank David Osborn (Stephanie), his five grandchildren, Jackson Pierce Moody, Elizabeth Osborn Moody, James Bailey Osborn, Joseph Cassidy Osborn and Kendall Faith Jackson, and his sister Ann Osborn Lusk (Leroy) of Huntsville, AL. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the parlor at Christ United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held in Wilson Chapel at Christ United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 18 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Christ United Methodist Church.
