Dr. Francis D. Gibson, Jr., 93, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at his home in Memphis, TN. He was born on March 20, 1916 in Marlboro County, SC to Francis D. and Myra Gibson. Francis grew up on Gibson, NC surrounding by many generations of family.He was a Captain in the US Army Medical Corp, Third Army in Europe and was awarded a Bronze Star during WWII. Francis served several communities throughout the nation by practicing medicine. He worked for the VA Hospital for thirty years, where he was assistant chief of Spinal Cord Injury Service. He was also a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.Francis is preceded in death by his wife Ruth. He is survived by two children; Francis D. Gibson III of Knoxville, TN and Deborah Gibson of Memphis, TN.A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
