Frances Hayes Smith's Obituary
Frances Hayes Smith died peacefully on Dec. 8, 2020 in Memphis, TN. She was born on April 4, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama to Otis Bart and Alieze Jemison Hayes. She graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1940 where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society.
Bama as she was fondly called by friends and grandchildren was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, T. Herbert (Billy) Smith, her son William A. (Bill) Smith, her granddaughter Margot S. Minor and her sister Margaret H. Glover. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Smith Minor and husband Wm. K. (Bill) Minor of McKinney, TX., Susan Smith Penland and husband Wm. E. (Will) Penland of Houston, TX and by her daughter-in-law, Cheryl C. Smith of Pensacola, Florida. She is also survived by her three beloved grandchildren and three great grandchildren and her nephew Byron H. Glover of California.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Church of the Holy Communion.
There will be a short visitation at twelve thirty in the afternoon followed by a one o’clock graveside service at Memorial Park Memphis TN on Saturday December 12, 2020.
