Frances Holloman Owen's Obituary
Frances Holloman Owen of Memphis Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Memphis to Helen Armistead Felts Holloman and Tom White Holloman and she grew up in her family home "Oaklawn" at Felts Station. After graduating from Central High School, Frances attended University of Mississippi where she became a member of Kappa Delta. Later in life she earned a degree in accounting from University of Memphis.
Frances had a sharp mind, a wonderful green thumb, superb culinary skills and artistic abilities that included loom weaving. Her greatest love was for Jesus Christ; she spent countless hours praying over her family and friends and lived a long life of faith. She was a member of First Evangelical Church in Memphis, participated in the Shepherd's Flock and attended Bible Study Fellowship for many years in both Memphis and Bozeman, Montana. Among her other passions were spending time in Montana, attending Grace Bible Church in Bozeman and more recently, being a member of The Gallatin Canyon Women's Club located in Gallatin County. James 1:17 was a guiding scripture in her life.
Frances was predeceased by her husband, John William Owen, Jr. and her son, John William Owen III. She is survived by her brother Dr. Henry Whitfield Holloman (Shirley) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her children, Marye Helen Owen, Holly Owen and Tom Robert Owen; granddaughters Elizabeth Holloman Owen and Meghean Warner (Paul); and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, with a memorial service following at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Evangelical Church, Memphis, Tennessee (firstevan.org); the John Owen Recreation Scholarship Fund at Second Presbyterian Church Foundation (2pcfoundation.org); Advance Memphis (give.advancememphis.org); or a charitable organization of the donor's choice.
